RESTORED RARE 'AUTOSTICK' EXAMPLE!!

West Coast Classics is proud to present an absolutely exceptional and beautiful example of this original southern California coveted 'black plate' 1968 Volkswagen Beetle with an 'Automatic Stickshift' transmission!

The 'AutoStick' was introduced in the 1968 model year.  It is a clutch-pedal-less, 3 speed, dry clutch, torque converted, semi-automatic transmission.  In other words, the driver shifts without the use of a clutch pedal.  All the driver has to do is to let up on the gas, change the shift lever position, and re-engage the gas pedal. Shifting is accomplished electrically with the aid of a vacuum system. The actual AutoStick transmission is basically the same as the manual in its two top ranges (first and second range in an AutoStick correspond to third and fourth gear in a manual).  The AutoStick may be driven by going through the ranges, Low, First, and Second OR it may simply be left in First for around town driving.  Performance in a well maintained AutoStick is close to that of a manual, but a manual does have an slight edge in acceleration and top speed. The VW Autoshift transmissions are considered by enthusiasts as good as any transmission ever put in a VW.  They allow you to start out with a gear ratio suitable for moderate acceleration and then shift to a higher ratio for greater speed.

This particular example was purchased by it's original owner on 9/23/1968 and comes with it's original owner's manual ad recent service records. It has been recently restored and has had no history of any rust whatsoever and obviously always was always well maintained and looked after! This car must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - the engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the 'Autostick' transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, including reverse, the car brakes and steers great and the engine temperature always remains cool.

The car has very striking dark green color paint and a very clean restored interior. Recent mechanical work at the renown VW specialists 'Wabbit Wepair' of Venice, California and VW specialists 'Julius Motors' of Los Angeles, California includes a rebuilt engine, new brake master cylinder and new front and rear brakes, drums and wheel cylinders.

This must be one of the finest daily driving example's available of this collectible and highly desirable 1968 VW Classic Beetle - a beautifully restored example with no rust whatsoever in rare turn-key ready daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning condition of an all time legendary classic car!
