Clean and correct engine compartment

268 cid straight-eight engine, 118 HP, Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, rear-wheel drive; wheelbase: 122"

Recently purchased from the renown 'Rockhound collection', the car has very good gaps and flush fitting doors, the hood and trunk and the floor boards, rockers and all the typical rust-prone areas are original, solid and rust-free - obviously an always cherished 'Garage Queen' since new. All the original chrome is beautiful and the car boasts its original spare wheel in the trunk. A largely original car, this 2 Door Chieftain Deluxe Convertible has been repainted in authentic period correct 'Santa Fe Red', which harmonizes nicely with the reupholstered Red and Gray seats. The power-operated convertible top is light tan and comes with a matching boot cover for when it is in the down position. Equipped with the smooth and powerful 268 eight-cylinder engine that is backed by a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The engine and its compartment are clean and correctly detailed. Other benefits that add to one's driving pleasure are the original AM radio, defroster, and pull-to-initiate overdrive system which allows for highway speeds to be reached.

The 8 cylinder engine and the 'Hydramatic' automatic transmission run beautifully and the engine is extremely strong and powerful and sounds absolutely magnificent - must be driven to be fully appreciated. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the car is an absolute pleasure to drive. The Rockhound Collection took ownership in the middle part of 2010 and has since maintained it in its museum-like setting and regularly exercised it to ensure the mechanics stayed up to date. This rare straight-eight Pontiac shows just some 70,400 miles on it, although it is not documented. It would be a beautiful complement to a collection of American icons, and as one of only a few known restored examples; it will be certainly welcomed at shows.

This is an extraordinarily rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and certainly local car show ready example of a mostly completely original spec 1953 Pontiac Chieftan 268 8 cylinder Convertible, a unique and very distinctive example of these rare luxury convertibles built in 1953, in absolutely stunning driving and looking condition!
