West Coast Classics presents an absolutely exceptional and highly desirable virtually all original example of this 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL Convertible in rare stock and rust free condition in it's original factory 'Viking Blue' color (code E) paint and it's all original 'Blue' (trim code 82) XL interior and a 'White' power top with it's original matching # 'X' code 352/220HP V8 engine with it's original 'Cruise-O-matic' automatic transmission with two-tone interior trim, original nylon carpeting, XL bucket seats with a floor mounted transmission selector and center console, polished stainless trim, stainless steel skirts, power steering, power top, heater & defroster & original AM radio.

For 1962, the Galaxie name was applied to all of Ford's full size models, as Fairlane moved to a new intermediate and the Custom model was temporarily retired. The new top-line Galaxie 500 (two-door hardtop, four-door sedan and hardtop and the Sunliner convertible) and the most desirable Galaxie 500/XL (two-door hardtop and convertible) models were also introduced; the 292 cu in (4.8 L) V8 was standard on the 500/XL with optional higher horsepower engines available. The 500XL (named after the 500 mile NASCAR races in which Ford was doing so well) was the first of the big performance Ford's and offered bucket seats and center console, as well as a sportier trim both inside and out. This model was Ford's response to Chevrolet's Super Sport option for the big Impala which was introduced the previous year and consequently saw a significant rise in sales for 1962. For 1963, Ford saw no reason to radically change a good thing, and the 1963 model was essentially unchanged save for some freshening up and added trim; a four-door hardtop 500/XL was added. A lower, sloping fastback roofline was added mid year (1963 1/2) to make the big cars more competitive on the NASCAR tracks with the added downforce.

Finished in it's original factory 'Viking Blue' color paint with it's original factory 'Blue' color bucket seats and interior, completely original matching blue nylon carpet interior, dashboard & options & original trunk lining, spare wheel & jack & original wheels. The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free and the car has no history of any accidents and no bondo - obviously an always garaged and cherished car since new. The original spare wheel with it's jack is in the trunk and the car boasts it's all original trunk lining and factory seat belts!

The original and factory optional upgraded matching # 352 2 barrel V8 engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car drives like it must have when new - must be driven to be fully appreciated. The car has power steering and a power top and it's original working AM/FM radio. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, there are no noticeable oil leaks and the temperature always remains cool! The car also boasts it's original owners manual showing it as being sold on 10/18/1962 at 'Keating Brothers Ford' of Stratford, CT.

This is a rare opportunity to own a great daily driving and never abused example of an obviously always garaged and accident free coveted rust free completely stock mid-year 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL Convertible in very fine and mostly completely original condition throughout! Although obviously not a concourse example, this remains a very rare and highly desirable and collectible unabused survivor example of one of the outstanding Ford designs of the sixties, which has high repute for both it's beautiful lines and smooth fast performance for a luxury convertible, a very similar design to the legendary Chevrolet Impala SS.

In summary, this is one great daily driver car and an ideal addition to the Ford enthusiast's collection of a virtually completely stock and original always garaged and rust free example of this increasingly desirable and collectable 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL 352 V8 Convertible!
