West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely beautiful example of this customized with no expense spared 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Custom 2 door Hardtop which is lowered and boasts a built 434 c.i. Ultra Street 600HP V8 engine matched to a 6 speed Tremec manual transmission with a Ford 9 inch from Dana Posi-traction limited slip differential rear end with 14" Wilwood brakes and a dual master cylinder with 17" front & 19" rear American Racing 'Torque Thrust' wheels and which is finished in a striking custom 'Dragonsblood' color with a 'Black' custom interior. Ready to show or cruise.

The Chevrolet Chevelle needs no introduction and is legendary amongst muscle car enthusiasts as a rugged car and therefore a perfect candidate for customizing - this particular example was originally a 1966 yellow 327 cid Malibu with a 4 speed transmission and with 67,000 original miles on the odometer. The car was taken off its chassis and disassembled. The sheet metal was media blasted and the parts were painted by with 5 coats of metallic 'Dragonsblood' paint hand rubbed between coats and then 2 coats of clear. The cost was over $10,000. The chassis was media blasted and powder coated light gray at a cost of $2,000. All new urethane body mounts, and all new hardware were used to reassemble the body and put the body back on the chassis. Hardware costs were $1,260.

A 600 horsepower (see Dyno sheets) Scott Shafiroff built Ultra-Street 434 cubic inch motor was purchased and installed at a cost of $11,600. Dyno sheets evidence the horsepower and 00 foot lbs torque. Carburetor is a 1200 cfm Demon on a high rise manifold. Headers, exhaust pipes, crossover, mufflers tail pipes were custom made by DAH in Redondo Beach 2 7/8 inch primaries, 3 inch collectors and 3 inches all the way back. Cost $3,200. A 6 speed Tremec transmission with 14 inch clutch and pressure plate was purchased and installed at a cost of over $3,000.

Carpeting, headliner, front buckets reupholstery was done by 'Amadeus Upholstery' in Hawthorne at a cost of $2,000. Bucket seats were salvaged from a wrecked '66 Super Sport and rebuilt/re-upholstered with correct vinyl. This resto-mod was done because the trans tunnel built for the Tremec by Holzinger Sheet Metal at $500 was too tall for the original bench seat to travel. Rear bench seat is original.

All the electrical is through hand fabricated looms, front, rear and engine. An electronic ignition was selected and installed as recommended by engine builder. Toggle switches were placed on the dash for electric radiator fans motors, electric fuel pump, and anti-theft cut off switch. Color codes for the loom wiring are in the receipts folder. A stock NOS fuel tank, fuel gauge sending unit and stainless steel fuel lines with aircraft fittings were purchased/fabricated and installed at a cost of $1,015. Cooling system with radiator and custom brackets was custom made by US Radiator at $1,700.

Wheels are Torque Thrust from American Racing fitted with low profile radials at a cost of $2,300. Front wheels are 17s and rears are 19s. Rear tires are 285. Rear end is a Ford 9 inch from Dana with posi limited slip. Brakes are 14 inch Wilwoods with all new stainless lines. Dual master cylinder.  Cost $2,670. Steering column is Ididit $375. Badging Chevelle 327, new chrome was $875.

The original hood would not accommodate the high rise intake manifold set-up so a hood with 3 inch cowl was purchased and painted to match at additional $400. All new rubber seals for door, roof, and deck lid were installed at $290. Side windows are original, windshield and backlight with new rubber seals are aftermarket at $206. Battery is red-top Optima at $300. Starter motor is a High Torque GM at $126.

This 1966 Chevy Chevelle 2 Door Hardtop Custom is a unique and seriously striking custom with a terrific stance but which is still immediately recognizable as the iconic '66 Chevelle that she is and turns heads wherever she goes!
