West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptional and beautiful example of an original and highly factory optioned 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 2 Door Hardtop Coupe with its original matching #'s Big Block L34 396/350HP 4 BBL V8 engine matched to it's original Turbo 400 automatic transmission, 12 Bolt rear end, in its original factory 'Forest Green' (Code 48) color paint with original factory option of twin 'Black' racing stripes running over the hood and rear decklid, factory Vinyl roof, Rally wheels, AM radio, a restored Black color vinyl bucket seats interior (from original Dark Green Fabric), center console with floor shifter, special instrumentation, factory option cowl induction hood, factory SS option package, power steering, air conditioning and power disc brakes!

In 1970, Chevrolet introduced the ultimate powerhouse for its midsize muscle car, the LS-6 and it was voted the best muscle car of all by Car and Driver. It was also the year GM lifted its displacement ban on all its midsize muscle cars. Today, it is regarded as one of the most fearsome muscle cars of all time. GM built the car to show up Ford and Mopar and the all out performance of the LS-6 454 had the competition shuddering. The all-out performance engine of 1970 had a factory rating of 450 bhp and no other muscle car production engine had a higher rating. By 1972, the last year of these desirable models, the bhp had dropped to 270 bhp.

This particular car is 1970's legendary SS396 L34 with its original matching #'s factory L34 Big Block engine, which is a correct CTW code 396 c.i./350HP V8 motor with the correct 3969854 casting # matched to it's correct 1970-CF code automaitic transmission!

As 'Road Test' magazine correctly stated, "The SS package
made the Chevelle worthy of notice by any serious motorist and permits the available power to be utilized with safe handling and braking". Correct SS options include round dash gauges, F41 suspension, front disc brakes, rear bumper pad, bright engine accents, dual exhausts with bright tips, black accented grille, wheel opening moldings, special domed hood, special chassis features including SS emblems on the grille, fenders, rear bumper, 17x7 Rally Wheels with raised white letter tires, steering wheel and door trim but as 1970 was the first year that the Super Sport became an option within the Malibu line, instead of being a stand alone model, the importance of documentation such as a copy of the factory build sheet is considered essential to absolutely proving authenticity. This particular example is body style 37 and an authentic 2 door Super Sport Coupe with its original big block 396 L34 engine. The trim tag or data plate is also correctly riveted on the top of the cowl on the drivers side and the engine code and casting numbers are also correct.

The car is loaded with original factory options including:

The 1970 Chevelle SS combined Chevrolets largest engines with its midsize car to give outrageous results. The squarer lines gave SS Chevelles the stance of a street tough. This particular cars original SS factory option package included the F41 special performance suspension package with stiffer front springs to compensate for the weight of the big block engine, a black finished grille, a left hand remote control sport rearview mirror, Super Sport SS emblems, power front disc brakes, dual exhausts to optimize the engines performance, the ZL2 factory option cowl induction hood, a new option for 1970, featured a vacuum controlled flap at the top of the hood to draw air in from the high pressure area at the base of the windshield to help the engine exploit its power under full throttle making an SS 396 easily blow away any competition, split bench seat, the special cowl induction domed hood with NASCAR style tie down hood pins which secured the hood from lifting during high speeds and wide wheels and tires on 5 spoke Magnum 500 steel SS wheels.

The car's original factory color Forest Green paint with painted Black racing stripes is in absolutely exceptional condition, as it the whole car. The Black color bucket seats interior is in great condition and the car boasts its original factory AM radio! There are no signs of any rust or major accidents, obviously an always garaged and cherished driver, not an abused older muscle car!

This car must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - the engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool.

In summary, this is one very fine example of this highly desirable and collectible muscle car a beautiful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 V8 Coupe with its original matching # big block L34 396/350HP 4 Barrel engine example with no rust and loaded with factory options in rare turn-key ready daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning condition! An all time classic American muscle car that needs little or no introduction!
