The Ford Pinto was a series of subcompact cars introduced for the 1971 model year and was Ford's first compact model, offered as a hatchback, two door station wagon, or two door fastback. Over the course of production, the Pinto was available with three inline four engines, as well as one 2.8L V6 option. Starting in 1975, Ford also sold a rebadged version of the Pinto known as the Mercury Bobcat. Production of the Ford Pinto ended in 1980.
This particular 1980 Ford Pinto Squire 2 Door Wagon was sold new by 'Tousley Ford' of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and reportedly remained under original ownership until its purchase in Washington by the renown 'Boyd Collection' in 2019. Its 2.3-liter inline-four is paired with a three-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, and options include power steering and power brakes. Parts replaced in the past few years are said to include the cylinder head and gasket, valves, timing belt, fuel pump, battery, and more as listed below and will be sold with its window sticker, factory documents and records.
This example is finished in its original Polar White (9D color code) paint with woodgrain applique along the body sides and liftgate. Steel 13 wheels wear factory covers and Guardsman whitewall tires. Vinyl upholstery with patterned cloth inserts is finished in Caramel (DT) accented with a deluxe steering wheel and woodgrain trim on the dashboard, shift bezel, and parking-brake handle.
Power brakes and steering are equipped along with flip-out rear quarter windows. The five-digit odometer shows just over 9k miles and is believed to have rolled over. The 2.3-liter OHC inline-four produced 88 horsepower when new and is mated to an optional three-speed automatic transmission.
Service performed within the last few years is said to have included replacement of the cylinder head and gasket, valves, timing belt, fuel pump, thermostat, and battery as well as radiator service, fresh coolant, and an oil change.Included in the sale are original paperwork, service manuals, and maintenance records as well as the window sticker that details factory options, specifications, and a retail price of $5,893.
You will look long and hard to find a finer example of this now very rare and collectible Ford 2 Door Pinto Wagon with the Squire option.
