West Coast Classics are proud to present a great daily driving example of this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC Coupe in beautiful condition throughout in it's original factory 'Signal Red Clearcoat' (color code 568) color paint with a 'Dark Brown' leather interior and with a very well, almost overly well, maintained service history including a recent full engine rebuild at a cost of over $14K making this a fabulous opportunity to own the top-of-the-line Mercedes of it's day which cost over $57K in 1984 (over $138K in 2018 dollars when adjusted for inflation according to the CPI!) in turn-key ready driving condition!

The car was obviously always garaged and the original factory 'Signal Red' color paint is in exceptional condition and the original 'Dark Brown' leather interior is also in very good shape with only very minor signs of wear such as some cracks in the original leather dashboard and a couple of minor tears in the original leather seats.

The car's factory options include 5.0L 184HP V8 engine, automatic transmission, electric sliding sunroof, power assisted steering, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, tinted glass, cruise control, electric window lifts, electrically heated rear window, fully independent suspension, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, anti-lock brakes, automatic antenna, automatic air conditioning with climate control, anti-theft, central locking, Becker Grand Prix Cassette/Radio and upgraded Mercedes AMG wheels.

In 2012 the car was purchased by its most recent California owner from its long time owner with it's former service history intact and the car has always been extraordinarily well maintained and serviced despite it's high miles with literally thousands and thousands of dollars spent in preventive maintenance over recent years at the renown 'KB Motorsports' Mercedes-Benz independent specialists of San Marcos, CA with service records available; major recent service history includes;

At 231,839 miles in 5/2012 the coolant reservoir was replaced; upper & lower radiator hoses replaced; fuel pump replaced; transmission fluid changed; oil pressure sender switch replaced; oil & filter changed;
At 234,975 miles in 6/2013 the engine was rebuilt (costing over $14K) with the piston rod bearings replaced; timing chain and tensioner replaced; thermostat replaced; valve rocker arms serviced; A/C hose lines and seals replaced & A/C refrigerant charged; fuel injections rail seals replaced & system serviced; exhaust replaced; vacuum hoses replaced; tramnsmission mounts replaced; shift linkage replaired; air filter replaced; radiator hose clamps replaced; coolant temperature sensor replaced; water pump replaced; oil pan gasket replaced; oil & filter changed; all fluids changed; intake manifold gasket replaced; brakes checked; cooling system serviced.
At 239,317 miles in 11/2014 the steering shaft was replaced; vacuum switching valve repaired; wheel bearings repacked & seals replaced; oil & filter change; transmission service; brakes checked; front brake pads & sensors replaced; window switch replaced.
At 240,895 miles in 10/2015 the fuel injectors and seals were replaced; spark plugs and the seat switch was replaced;
At 243,592 miles in 5/2016 the rear disc brake pads & hoses and rear calipers were replaced; parking brake shoe was replaced;
At 244,600 miles the car 4 new tires.

The car therefore drives exactly like such a well maintained and serviced Mercedes should and must be seen and driven to be truly appreciated. The 5.0L V8 engine is extremely strong and responsive, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the temperature always remains cool. All the power options are working as they should including the sunroof and all 4 windows and the air conditioning. The car comes with its original owners manuals, spare wheel and factory tools.

The 500SEC Coupe was introduced to the public in 1981 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It replaced the 380SEC model and only the absolute best materials were used in this top-of-the-line model which included all the safety demands of the S line sedans but with the engine hood, trunk lid and bulk head between the tank and trunk being made of light alloy to achieve its curb weight of only 1,610 kg. The car was powered by a powerful V8 fuel injection engine with a top speed of over 140mph matched to a 4 speed convertor automatic transmission which when driving off proceeded in 2nd gear when 'Drive' was engaged but which utilized a pedal kickdown resulting in first gear. A new position 'B' utilized better the engine braking effect and was especially designed for down-hill mountain driving! Another new feature was the floating caliper disc brakes in front which reduced the heating up of brake fluid thus eliminating vapor lock and consequently increasing safety.

Without doubt, this is one of the finest built cars ever made by Mercedes-Benz, now becoming more desirable and collectible than ever before - certainly you will look long and hard to find a finer head-turning example or more well maintained and always dealer or independent specialist serviced car at this price anywhere else!
