West Coast Classics are proud to present a great daily driving example of this 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC Coupe in it's original factory 'Classic White' (color code 737) color paint with a 'Light Tan' leather interior, these SEC models were the top-of-the-line Mercedes of it's day which cost well over $57K in 1985 (over $172K in 2026 dollars when adjusted for inflation according to the CPI!) in very good daily driving condition!

The car was obviously always garaged and is mostly all original with its original factory 'Classic White' color paint in very good condition and with the original leather interior also in very good shape, with a rare uncracked original leather dashboard but with some definite signs of wear in the original leather seats which include sun damage including on the top of rear seats.

The car's factory options include 5.0L 184HP V8 engine, automatic transmission, electric sliding sunroof, power assisted steering, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, tinted glass, cruise control, electric window lifts, electrically heated rear window, fully independent suspension, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, anti-lock brakes, automatic antenna, automatic air conditioning with climate control, anti-theft, central locking, Becker Grand Prix Cassette/Radio and heated front seats.

The car therefore drives like a well maintained and serviced low mileage Mercedes should with the 5.0L V8 engine being extremely strong and responsive, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the temperature always remains cool. All the power options are working including the sunroof and all 4 windows and the air conditioning works but will need recharging.

The 500SEC Coupe was introduced to the public in 1981 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It replaced the 380SEC model and only the absolute best materials were used in this top-of-the-line model which included all the safety demands of the S line sedans but with the engine hood, trunk lid and bulk head between the tank and trunk being made of light alloy to achieve its curb weight of only 1,610 kg.

The car was powered by a powerful V8 fuel injection engine with a top speed of over 140mph matched to a 4 speed convertor automatic transmission which when driving off proceeded in 2nd gear when 'Drive' was engaged but which utilized a pedal kickdown resulting in first gear. A new position 'B' utilized better the engine braking effect and was especially designed for down-hill mountain driving! Another new feature was the floating caliper disc brakes in front which reduced the heating up of brake fluid thus eliminating vapor lock and consequently increasing safety.

Without doubt, this is one of the finest built cars ever made by Mercedes-Benz, now becoming more desirable and collectible than ever before - certainly this particular example has some cosmetic needs as described but will make a very good daily driver for the Mercedes enthusiast!
