As Ferrari's compact cars evolved they grew in both size and reputation. After the progression from 206 to 308 the next evolution was the Mondial and the 328 and what an evolution it was. Following on form, the initially controversial but ultimately very successful 308 series was the second generation of Ferrari's mid engined V8 range with the Mondial proving to be one of Ferrari's most commercially successful models over its thirteen-year run. The Mondial underwent many updates throughout its production starting in 1980 with the vehicle serving as the sole V8-engined 'GT' vehicle within the Ferrari range and it was a significantly more expensive model than the 308 GTBi with a base price for the coupe of $64K in 1981 (or over $180K in 2017 dollars). The second generation was the Mondial 3.2, produced from 1985, and this car enjoyed strong popularity within the Mondial range due to it being a sterling all-round performer. These were some of the last Ferrari's to have relatively straightforward maintenance and were powered by same engine as in the 328 with the same five-speed 'dog-leg' racing gearbox, which allowed for quicker and more direct shifts between 2nd and 3rd, and 4th and 5th, gears. The clutch was hydraulically-actuated and gear selection is via cable operation. Like the new Ferrari 328, the Mondial's engine grew in both bore and stroke to 3.2 L (3,185 cc) in 1985. Output was now 270 PS (199 kW; 266 hp). The Mondial 3.2 was first presented at the 1985 Frankfurt Auto Show in September that year.

Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet forms, styling refreshed with restyled and body-coloured bumpers, similar to the 328 with more integrated indicators and driving lamps, and new alloy wheels with a more rounded face. The 3.2 also boasted a major interior update, with a more ergonomic layout and a more rounded instrument binnacle. Later cars, from 1987 onwards, also sported ABS brakes. Fuel injection remained the primarily mechanical Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) with an O2 sensor in the exhaust providing feedback to a simple computer for mixture trimming via a pulse modulated frequency valve that regulated control fuel pressure. The ignition system was Marelli Microplex, with electronic advance control and one distributor per bank of the V8. The 1988 Mondial 3.2 would be the final model year that retained the relatively low maintenance costs of the 308/328 drivetrain, allowing major service items like timing belt and clutch replacement performed with the engine/transmission package still in the car.

3.2 Mondial Coupe Production started: 1985, ended: 1988. Total production: 987 (91 Right Hand Drive) - 87 Imported to US/CA First serial number: 59165. Last serial number: 79671.

This is therefore a very rare and collectible Ferrari; 1 of only 449 total Mondial 3.2 Cabriolets imported to the US and only 753 Left Hand Drive models total!

Purchased originally at 'Steven Kessler Motor Cars Inc Ferrari' of New York, NY on 3/31/1988 and delivered to it's original and only family owner in Newark, NJ where it was initally and for many years primarily serviced and in later years at the renown Ferrari independent specialists 'C & G Auto Tech' of Caldwell, NJ. The car was shipped to southern California by Horseless Carriage in late 2018 by the original owner's son after his inheriting the car following his father's passing with only 9,796 original miles and the car was then serviced at 9,904 miles at the renown 'F & M Motor Sports', of Los Angeles, CA, the long established and well regarded local Ferrari independent service center, where it received its most recent full major service for an absolutely clean bill of health for it's next owner.

The car has reportedly always been a non-smoking owners car from new which has obviously always been serviced on schedule and will be sold with its original owners handbooks, dealers service booklet, recent service records and original purchase invoice for $90,175 (equivalent to $196,434 in 2018 according to the CPi inflation calculator)
. The car will also be sold with its original factory tools, spare wheel and jack and factory boot and manuals. Driven only sparingly, obviously never seen rain or bad weather and always well maintained and serviced at only Ferrari specialists since new and always garaged with absolutely no accidents and rare for these models no rust whatsoever and owned by only obviously one very careful and meticulous and mature family owner since new - never raced or abused. The original factory 'Red' color paint is in absolutely beautiful condition with no noticeable imperfections and the completely original tan leather interior with its original Ferrari leather skins is also in beautiful condition with virtually no signs of any wear apart from a very small imperfection on the interior kick panel on the drivers side from entering the car. The cars original 5 spoke convex center wheels are uncurbed and unblemished and the original spare has not ever been used.

This particular example with only some 10,300 original miles drives exactly like such a well maintained and serviced ultra low mileage Ferrari should and must be driven to be fully appreciated and seen to be believed! You will surely look long and hard to find a finer or lower mileage example of this single family owned car in exceptionally clean and increasingly collectible shape. This is one very desirable Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet with unrivaled and comprehensive full recent service history!
