The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a now legendary series of flagship vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz until 1991 and was a successor to the earlier W116 series and was offered in a straight six, V8 and the now renown turbo diesel models. The 1981-85 300SD model boasted the OM617.951 3.0L 5 Cylinder Turbo Diesel engine which is considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever produced and one of the key reasons for Mercedes popularity around the world today as the ultimate long distance and durable touring car with many models still being used around the globe as taxi cabs boasting many hundreds of thousands of miles on the clock. It is an economical and relatively quick with the turbocharger fitted car and a legendary trouble-free engine. The Mercedes W126 300SD and the later 300SDL, 350SD and 350SDL were US & Canada only imports and offered a unique combination of luxury, exclusivity, economy and reliability that could not possibly be matched by any other brand making it the vehicle of choice by countless diplomats, executives and other such entities who recognized the attraction of the worlds first production turbo diesel sedan.
In 1986, the 300SD was replaced with the 300SDL and some 13,830 models were built on a LWB chassis over its two years of production. It was part of the second generation of W126 model lineup and was now ultra quiet with two firewalls and thick rubber gaskets around all the doors. The five-cylinder engine was replaced with the new inline six-cylinder engine and the engine was only offered in long-wheelbase with a limousine type ride and boasted the first year offering Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) & and an (SRS) drivers air bag being available. The new engine had 148 hp (110 kW) compared to 125 hp (93 kW) of the previous version. For these 1986-87 models, a new second generation trap oxidizer was used which along with the new six cylinder engine demonstrated even better performance, dependability, durability and much quieter engines! In 1990 the 350SD/SDL debuted, using a larger-displacement 3496cc OM603.97 engine that had more torque and a lower top RPM. The engine lived on in the W140 chassis after the W126 production ended, as the 300SD or S350, with a larger yet turbocharger and thus more power and torque. These luxurious cars still command a strong demand internationally, especially low mileage and well maintained and unabused examples like this particular example.
This particular model was obviously always garaged by its previous owners with no accidents and it has a clean CARFAX report and boasts all its original parts and paint and obviously absolutely no rust whatsoever! The original and very striking and rare factory 'Smoke Silver Metallic' color paint is in absolutely beautiful and virtually flawless condition and the original 'Beige' leather seats are also in absolutely beautiful condition with no signs of any wear and the original leather dashboard and the walnut wood veneer interior are in virtually flawless shape with no cracks or blemishes (obviously always garaged from the sun!).
