1993 VOLKSWAGEN CORRADO SLC VR6 5 SPD WITH 49K ORIGINAL MILES!
The top of the line variant for the Corrado was the VR6. Introduced in 1992 and after a cosmetic revision such as the seven slat grill being replaced by a four slat, front wings widened and the bonnet and bumper redesigned, the Corrado VR6 was marketed as the SLC in the United States, with SLC meaning Sport Luxury Coupe.
In North America, the VR6 was fitted with a 2.8L engine. Powerful, and a strong drivers car, the Corrado VR6 is one of Volkswagen's most sought after models.
The Volkswagen Corrado ended production in 1996.
This particular example has only 49K original miles and only 3 previous owners since new. It is an original southern California car that reportedly has always been garaged, cosmetically it is in very nice condition overall but please note there is a small dent above the rear wheel on the passenger side (see photos below). There are no signs or history of any accidents and the car has a clean Carfax report.
The car was recently fully serviced at 49,599 miles (5 miles ago) just prior to sale at the renown AAA rated Santa mechanics, 'Joy Automotive', where importantly for these cars at this mileage, the car received a new timing chains and tensioner/guide rails. Also a new head gasket, cylinder head bolts, the cylinder head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and all necessary seals/gaskets were replaced and the crankshaft position sensor, coolant pipes, thermostat/gasket and water outlet. All oils, filters and fluids replaced. 4 Wheel alignment, tire condition and pressures checked.
The SLC (Sport Luxury Coupe) came heavily equipped right out of the box, as Volkswagen positioned its VR6-powered flagship as a premium sports coupe.
Because the standard features list was so extensive, the factory options list was remarkably brief, consisting of only four core choices of which this particular example has all but the automatic transmission and cold weather package (CA car!), which is good because the collectors and serous drivers all want the 5 speed manual today!:
Leather Seating: Available leather-surfaced front sport seats instead of the standard ribbed cloth.
Cold Weather Package: Heated front seats (cushion and seatback) and heated windshield washer nozzles.
Power Sunroof: An electronically operated steel sunroof with a key-activated auto-closing feature.
4-Speed Automatic Transmission: An electronically controlled automatic transmission featuring dual driving profiles ("Sport" or "Fuel-Efficient") to replace the standard 5-speed manual.
CD Changer: A trunk-mounted 6-disc CD changer controlled directly by the standard in-dash Premium audio head unit
Standard was the following:
Powertrain: The iconic 2.8L, 12-valve VR6 engine putting out 178 horsepower, paired with traction control (EDS).
Aero: The signature speed-activated rear spoiler that raised automatically at 45 mph and retracted at 15 mph.
Safety & Security: Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), a central locking system with total closure, and a factory anti-theft alarm system.
Convenience: Cruise control, power windows, power heated mirrors, and air conditioning
